Week One… Knobs and Levers and the Flames of Heaven

old glove

It was a mad-dash to the finish to get the initial pages up on the botched blog, and I’ve spent the last week tweaking and twidling the knobs and levers behind the scenes. I suspect that will be a matter of perpetualtiy, this constant noodling, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise. It is usually when I finish a project which I have designed that I am immediately dissatisfied with the results. It is only after completion that I am deluged with flights of fancy and grand ideas about what could have been. Of course, only some of these rouge notions can be ignored.

In other matters this past week:

  • I’m finding myself extremely pleased with Expression Engine. So far, I’ve been able to adapt it to the way I want to work, as opposed to the other way around. That is the mark of an effective tool, is it not?
  • Another CG Society Challenge has been thrown down. I entered the last one, only to figure out halfway through there wasn’t going to be any way I’d be able to finsih in time. Better luck this time? We’ll see!
  • We went to a hockey game saw the Sharks beat the Wings five to one. Christine was not happy. Never mind that the Wings were missing all their gold-medal Swedes. (You’ll notice I do not have a “sports” category here, so I won’t even pretend to know what I’m talking about here.) But it was a fun game and a good excuse to eat a hot dog and some nachos.
  • I continue to be inspired by the teachings of Rob Bell, They guy from the nooma videos. You can head on over to Mars Hill and download his sermons for free. This week in particular I was struck by his insightful commentary on Psalm 77 regarding prayer, and his fresh assertion out of Revelation that the “the Flames of Heaven may be hotter than the flames of Hell…“
