The Botched Blog
Minor Breakthrough
I seem to be having a prolonged bout of creative blockage these days. Occasional flashes of inspiration have sparked, yes… but have failed to ignite anything meaningful. Sometimes its the simplest thing than can turn things around. Sometimes its just a couple of millimeters. That’s the measurement by which I altered the action on my Modulous fretless. (Action is the distance between the string and the surface of the neck). Years ago I raised the action to accommodate the more aggressive playing style I was using with Maximum Indifference. A few weeks back at Steve Lawson’s Bass Masterclass, I concluded the action was a bit to high now that I was focusing on more subtle, melodic playing. It just wasn’t signing. Of course it took two weeks for me to actually lower the action… but once I did… bingo… she was singing again. I ended up spending the better part of this rainy Sunday afternoon/evening experimenting and recording… and it felt good to fan that little flame.

Welcome. This is the Botched Blog, the personal web site and hideous time-sink for Gustaf Fjelstrom (that would be me). Part proving ground and rickety digital soapbox, part high tech scrapbook of pixelated narcissism, this site will serve merely to document the journey… lest I forget.
